South Pacific Railroad Museum: Campo, CA

The weeks are currently flying by for us now that Gavin has started Preschool.  He absolutely loves it and in fact did not even want to leave.  I had to physically go into the classroom and console him out of there this past Thursday.  Of course when I finaly got him to follow me out willingly, Olivia had taken it upon herself to rearange the shelves and the top of the teachers desk.  I am deciding to just go along with it since it looked better after she did her rearranging :)  Olivia asked if she could go to school as well and I figured by telling her that if she got rid of the pacifier and went to the bathroom on the potty it would be a good goal for her to work on in the upcoming year until she would start next September.  Since that convo she rarely uses her diaper and she has been giving me her paci more often.  I need to figure out now how I am going to retract my statement.
Gavin's first day of school pic:

On Sunday we headed out to Campo, CA which is about 67 miles southeast of where we currently live to visit the Railroad Museum out there. It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere which was tons of fun and scenic for the 1 hour train ride that we took called the Golden State Line which brought us approximately 8 miles north of Tecate, Mexico.  The entire trip you drive along the tall secured border fenced lines until the trip ends at a cave which you can no longer go through due to fires that occured back in 2009.  The line would normally take you into to Tecate where you could tour the area for the day and visit the 3 breweries that are located down there which were Tecate, Dosequi and Sol.  Since the fire that knocked the cave down is located within the mexican region, the US is not allowed to help fix it so the train line is currently waiting for the Federally's to improve the line so they can once again continue venturing in there.  What a bummer :(

The kids loved getting the chance to walk around the train and talk with the conductor.  The conductor and main breakline guy were truly a site, looking like people from the old western days and it was not a costume either.   During the trip we also got to take a look at the Pacific Crest Trail which is a hiking trail that runs from Mexico all the way up to Canada.  They say that it takes hikers 3 1/2 months to hike the full trail from bottom to top.  At this point in our lives Dave and I were just happy to say we saw it.  Once we got back to the Train Depot, I asked the cashier if there were any interesting burger joints or eaterys around.  She just laughed and said, "You are too cute!"  I guess that meant no :)

It was a great week/end and I look forward to sharing with you our next pics in the weeks to come so stay tuned.  I will end with a great pic of the two monkeys playing dress-up in the store on our hunt for the "Perfect" Halloween Costume, as Gavin likes to say.  :)

South Carlsbad Camping Weekend

Hello Everyone!  We had a great time last weekend camping with our friends the Steinfeld family at the Carlsbad State Beach.  There were 6 adults and 5 kids ranging from ages 5 to 2.   It was wonderful to sleep in our tent while listening to the waves crash into the cliffs.  We were literally on the cliff and could see the ocean right over the fence.  The kids did awesome, playing soccer, riding their bikes, hitting the beach and building castles in the sand.  Marshmallows definitely helped at night during the bonfire and the only casualty we had was Dave losing his sandals at the beach.  Luckily Shane spotted them in the sand below our campsite the following morning and Dave ran down excited like a 2 year-old since the ocean didn't sweep them away during the night.

Luckily we didn't spot the Great White Shark that has been sited all along the coast these past few months but we did see some awesome pelicans flying over head.  Of course we took cover in fear of being shat on. :)  Us adults actually got to enjoy the ambiance of the bonfire while the kids passed out or watched TV in the tent at nighttime.  The trip was definitely a success and are looking forward to our next camping adventure!

Welcome to our world......

I have finaly taken the plunge after 7 years and decided to accept that I am now a "Californian," I think that is the correct terminology.  In our hearts we will forever love the East Coast and who knows what the future will bring but for now our home and heart is here in CA.

Anyhoo, I am planning on keeping up a blog in order to share our memories and events with our family and friends from back East who we tend to see less and less each and every year.  We love and miss everyone and wish we could spend our Holidays and most important events with you but of course that is impossible.  Every day is an adventure for us raising a 3 and 2 year-old but at the end of the day we wouldn't trade it for the world.  Stay tuned for my first weekly blog...........
